If you ask anyone why they love France, most people refer to the art, food and wine, the history and the lovely seasonal climate. If you ask anyone at Edusport, they’ll immediately say that that is where we won RWC 2007 and where we are heading to in 2023 to defend our status as current Rugby World Cup champions!
As an Official Travel Agent for Rugby World Cup 2023, we are thrilled once again to take South Africans to the heart of the action, and are busy organizing incredible travel packages, looking at new opportunities to travel and delivering quality service.
Our team is passionate about rugby, with many of them enjoying multiple RWC events over the years. We chatted to a few of the Edusport team to get their low-down on why they love France and places they would love to explore.
Nick (British and Irish Lions Project Manager) – For me what makes France so special is the variety across the country, it has everything! From big cities to the French Riviera, the diverse landscapes, medieval villages and ski resorts! France has experiences and preferences for all who visit.
Kelsey (Product Manager) – France is very diverse culturally and gastronomically, and I love the wide range of food and wine they have to offer!
Nicky (CEO) – I love France because of its old-town charm, the beautiful old buildings, and the cafes on the street corners. You can simply sit and watch the world pass by.
Lynette (Operations Manager) – Sightseeing, wine, and pastry!
Stevie (Sports Travel Consultant) – The team spirit and comradery during Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan was such an amazing thing to be part of, so I am really looking forward to being part of that experience again.
Nick – Nothing beats the vibe and full-day experience of Match Day! From waking up in the morning and knowing TODAY you get to experience a World Cup match, is something you’ll remember forever. Making your way to the stadium, surrounded by fans from both teams, the air filled with expectation and enthusiasm with songs being sung by supporters linked arm in arm. Finally you arrive and stand there in awe of the noise, the colour, the pitch and then it really hits you – you’re at a Rugby World Cup Match!
Kelsey – What I am most looking forward to is two months of action-packed rugby – oh how I have missed it!
Nicky – I love the wine regions! Mont Martre is also a favourite and then exploring the Host Cities I’ve never been to before.
Kelsey – I would love to visit Marseilles – this is one of the oldest towns in France and it is rich in French heritage; Paris – I would love to see the Eiffel Tower as well as the Louvre; I would also love to experience an authentic French café, and sample croissants and macarons.
Nick – I would love to visit the South of France. Being a bit of a sucker for a warmer climate, the blue water and coastal retreats, this area is for me! This sun-drenched countryside bursts with charm and historic attractions, including enchanting medieval hilltop towns and ancient Roman ruins.
Lynette – I would love to go back to Nice and visit Monte Carlo. I’d also love to visit Marsellies or Bordeaux for the Cassis by Kayak or to Arcachon in the south west.
Nicky – I think that the South Africa v Ireland match is going to be incredible. Two top teams going up against each other is going to be very exciting!
Stevie – I would love to be able to watch South Africa v Ireland in Saint Denis!
Kelsey – South Africa v Ireland – the atmosphere and the stadium would be so lively and festive.
Nick – Obviously if South Africa were to reach the final, that would be a match that would live with you forever. But the match I would love to see will have to be the South Africa v Scotland game. Firstly, it’s our opening game, and the expectation and excitement to the start of the tournament will add a brilliant atmosphere, plus the game is being played in Marseilles, which is a beautiful area of the country. Finally, the match is against the Scots! What a great group of supporters!
