UEFA Super Cup 2019
14 August 2019
The 2019 UEFA Super Cup will see UEFA Champions League winners, Liverpool go head-to-head with Chelsea, winners of the UEFA Europa League, at Istanbul's Beşiktaş Park on 14 August 2019.
This will be the first all-English UEFA Super Cup, and a not-to-be-missed event for English footie fans.
The brainchild of Dutch journalist Anton Witkamp, the UEFA Super Cup has taken on several formats since the first match in 1974. After 15 consecutive Super Cups being played at Stade Louis II in Monaco between 1998 and 2012, the Super Cup is now played at various stadiums (much like the finals of the Champions League and the Europa League). In 2019, the 44th edition of the UEFA Super Cup will be hosted in Turkey for the first time, at the home ground of Turkish club Beşiktaş.
The last English side to win the UEFA Super Cup was Liverpool, who got the better of CSKA Moskva after extra time in the 2005 game in Monaco. Fourteen years later, will they do it again? Be there to find out. Browse our UEFA Super Cup packages now.
Straddling Europe and Asia, Istanbul is a culture-rich destination with a fascinating history. Its Old City reflects the influences of the many empires that once ruled there. From the Roman-era Hippodrome (for centuries the site of chariot races) and the iconic Byzantine Hagia Sophia, which features a soaring 6th-century dome and rare Christian mosaics; to the Ottoman-era Sultan Ahmet Mosque (Blue Mosque) and Circa-1460 Topkapi Palace, which was home to Ottoman sultans until the 19th century and today contains royal artifacts and rooms that once comprised a large harem. For a faster-paced experience of Istanbul’s modern outlook, the Galata area is known for its d upmarket boutiques while Beyoğlu's stylish bars lie south of Taksim Square. The city's eastern, Asian side encompasses residential areas and waterfront districts such as Kadiköy.
