Russia’s capital is an iconic, global city, dotted with architectural gems from the time of the Russian Empire. Red Square is the first destination for most visitors to the city. Surrounded by St. Basil’s Cathedral, the State History Museum, Lenin’s Mausoleum and one of the Kremlin’s long brick walls, the name comes from the Russian word “krasnaya,” which means “beautiful.”
Be sure to visit the Kremlin Museum Complex, which includes the Armoury Collection, the Diamond Fund, several churches, the Patriarch Palace and the Bell Tower. If you only want to visit one museum in Moscow, make it the Tretyakov Gallery. One of Russia’s greatest museums, the Tretyakov features a breathtaking collection of Russian art.
Take a walk down Old Arbat Street to feel the “old Moscow spirit” among the souvenir vendors and tourist cafes. In contrast, New Arbat Street features some of Moscow’s most expensive restaurants and nightclubs. The street is lavishly lit up at night and is always very lively.

For fashionistas, Tverskaya Street boasts several prestigious boutiques. It is also lined with cafes, restaurants, coffeehouses, a couple of theaters, and several hotels. The most well known of Moscow’s many parks, Gorky Park is one of the trendiest places in the city due to its cafes, walking paths, open-air cinema theatre, free Wi-Fi, and contemporary public art projects.
